II - Micro Unit Housing

As final year project for second year I designed a series of micro units to house one to two people at the front of our site in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork and a number or larger units for families of four at the back of the site. I based the family sizes off of census reports from the area and really focused in on how to make a low cost, modular micro home. The units were three meters wide and were fully accessible on the ground floor. The stairs were also at a lower incline to cater for elderly inhabitants. The concept of the scheme stemmed from the existing fire station on the site which was going to be left empty when the fire station moved to a new location. The skeleton of the building was going to act as a communal area for the residents to use, fitted with raised beds and seating.
